Overview

Recent Challenge Day events in Alachua County schools have included two events: The "Challenge Day" itself on Day One, followed by a "Challenger Day" on Day Two. Each of the programs lasts an entire school day.

The events take place either off-campus or in the school gym or a similar facility large enough to give 125-150 people ample space and privacy. There are 100-125 students (see "Selecting Students") and 20-25 adult volunteers (see "Being an Adult Volunteer"). Two leaders from the national Challenge Day program lead the students and adults through the programs.

Challenge Day is a series of games, activities, group discussions, icebreakers and trust-building exercises that lead to transformation on the part of the students (and the adult volunteers). The students leave the program committed to changing the environment at the school and in their community.

As ongoing support for the students, a follow-up leadership program at their school helps them throughout the school year to create the changes they want to see in their school.
